Welcome to the online version of ‘A Students’ Guide to the Top 50 Placement & Internship Employers 2011-12!’
Created by the RateMyPlacement.co.uk team, this Top 50 Guide showcases the best employers in the UK when it comes to undergraduate placements and internships, as decided by the students themselves.
How the table was formed
The Top 50 Table is based on reviews submitted by students on RateMyPlacement.co.uk.
For an organisation to qualify, they must have met the following criteria:
- The organisation must employ 250 or more people
- The organisation must have received a minimum of 10 reviews during 2010, for placement years, internships and short-term insights that were completed in 2010.
Each ‘review’ is a structured survey compromising of 15 questions and within each review, students are required to rate and review their day-to-day role, the company in general and the other aspects that complete an experience such as the opportunities outside of work and the local area.
After compiling 1,850 student-written reviews from students leaving placements and internships in 2010, we formulated a table through the following three ways…
- Each review for a particular employer then combines with all other reviews to formulate an overall average rating for the company
- We then factored in the total number of students employed on undergraduate schemes. those organisations with a high ratio of reviews:total students employed were given a positive weighting factor as we feel the greater the ratio of students that review provides a more reflective picture of the scheme as a whole.
- Companies offering more than 50 undergraduate opportunities were also positively weighted to reward forward-thinking companies offering a significant number of opportunities for undergraduates.
Once the weightings were taken into account, we were able to establish our final Top 50 Employers table, shown here on the right.
